Mrs. Catherine Hart Nephew

Catherine M. Nephew, 87 years of age of Ellenburg Depot, New York was received with open arms into heaven on July 26, 2012 after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer with her loving family by her side. She was born in Mooers Forks, NY on May 4, 1925, the daughter of Harvey and Lena (Gadway) Hart. She married Carl J. Nephew on September 9, 1944 in St. Ann's Church in Mooers Forks. She was predeceased in death by two children, Wayne and Donna; brother George and sister-in-law Elsie Hart; brother Kenneth Hart; sister Shirley Colgan and brother-in-law, Tom. Her survivors include her husband Carl of Ellenburg Depot; daughter Judy and son-in-law Donald Bombard of Ellenburg Depot; grandson Scott and his wife Shelley Bombard of Ellenburg Depot; sister Clara Nephew of Mooers Forks; a sister-in-law Edith Hart of Mooers; sister-in-law Eva and Charles Drown of Mooers; and great-grandsons Tommy, Steven, Corey and Scooter. Catherine attended Mooers Central School and before marriage worked at Pal Blade in Plattsburgh and later became a stay at home mom and homemaker for almost 68 years this Sept. as they would have celebrated their anniversary. Catherine was known as a wonderful, caring, affectionate individual that everyone she came in contact with just loved. She was a member of Court Little Rose #1300 Catholic Daughters of the Americas in Ellenburg and a communicant of St. Edmund's Church. She was noted for her many favorite dishes and her sayings "honey" and "dear" which she called everyone she was in contact with. Her favorite past times were visiting the casino, taking trips with her family, playing cards, dice and just being with family. She will be greatly missed with everyone she came in contact with. Some special ladies that took care of Catherine were her CDA sisters, Anne Landry, Joyce Roberts and Deanna Grogan. Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Sunday, July 29 from 3 to 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Monday, July 30 in St. Edmund's Church with Rev. Ted Crosby officiating. Entombment will take place at Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens, Ellenburg Depot. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Edmund's Church carpet fund.
