Mr. Charles H. Mason

On April 19th, 2023, the Lord and his angels called His son, Charles “Chuck” Harvey Mason, home to eternal rest. Chuck was born on March 31st, 1944 to his father, Richard William and his mother, Dorothy James Mason in Fort Benning, Georgia. Chuck initially grew up in Clinton, NY before eventually moving to Gouverneur, NY where he graduated from high school and was active in hockey and other sports. He went on to study at Canton ATC and, upon graduation, followed in his father’s footsteps as an Independent Insurance Adjuster. Chuck grew and operated Mason Claims Service, Inc for 56 years. Chuck courted and married Vesta LeRoy Ferree (widow) with daughter, Barb in 1972. Much later, Barb went on to marry Gerald Saumier (Caledonia, MI) with children Gerald with wife Bailey (Bajorek) and children Gerald and Hadley, Stephanie with husband Samuel (Scime) and Michelle. Chuck and Vesta had five additional children: Richard, wife Vanessa (Valant) and son Cole (Rexford, NY); followed by a daughter, Shari, with husband Nathan (Miller) (Binghamton, NY) and children Abigail, Madeline and Zachary; another girl, Jill, with husband Seth (Silver) (Plattsburgh, NY) and children Alison and Marissa; son, Dr. Robert, with wife Lyndsey (Recore) (Poquoson, VA) and children Brooklyn and Broderick; and lastly a son, Brian, with wife Amy (Coyne)(Endwell, NY) and children Hannah and Olivia. Chuck and Vesta happily resided with their family on the Goodman Road in Malone, NY for 50 years. Chuck was pre-deceased by his three sisters, Kathleen (David) Sipher, Jane (Richard) Simmons and Karen (Alfred) Bigarel. Chuck’s only remaining brother James “Jimmy” currently resides in Gouverneur, NY. Chuck was an affectionate dog lover and was most recently predeceased by his Golden Retriever, Mindy. Chuck proudly climbed the ranks of the Malone Lodge of Elks 1303 obtaining the distinguished role of Exalted Ruler. Lastly, Chuck was active on the Board of Citizen Advocates as Treasurer and President. Chuck enjoyed helping each of his kids with house projects the most, golfing at the Malone Golf Club, bowling and camping. His passion was traveling to visit with family and to see grandchildren, especially to the family camp on Upper Chateaugay Lake. With the advent of Chuck’s stomach cancer, they moved to Plattsburgh, NY to be near his hospital and their daughter, Jill. Calling hours will be held at St. Mary-Murphy-Wilcox Funeral Home, 563 East Main Street, Malone, NY on Friday, April 21 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon at Notre Dame Church, 11 Church Place, Malone, NY. After Mass, the family will host a reception at the Malone Lodge of Elks, 67 Elm Street, Malone, NY. In lieu of flowers, please offer your donation in Charles’ memory to the Malone Lodge of Elks 1303, 67 Elm Street, Malone, NY.
