Mrs. Esther Sadie Fleury

Esther Sadie Fleury, 91, of Malone died Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Hospice of the North Country. Esther was born August 8, 1932 in Earlville, New York. Her parents, Floyd and Sadie White LaMere predeceased her. She was educated in Chateaugay and Malone Schools. She was married to Camille L. Fleury on June 9, 1949 at Notre Dame Church. He predeceased her in 2002. She was employed as head of the toy department at J.J. Newberrys, later at Tru-Stitch and as a food service helper at Franklin Academy. She retired as Assistant Cook at the Malone Adult Center in 1995. She was a Girl Scout leader of Brownie Troop 51, and co-leader of Intermediate Troop of St. Joseph’s Church. She was a former member of the Girl Scout Leaders Association, a member of R.S.V.P., Franklin County Association of Senior Citizens and the Malone Adult Center. Esther was an avid reader and crafter. She co-owned Cozy Corner Crafts in Malone being involved in craft shows throughout the North Country. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting, camping, traveling and her family. She was predeceased by her son, Doctor Bruce E. Fleury of New Orleans, Louisiana; her son, Aaron and twin granddaughters in infancy; her sisters, Dorothy Thibeault of Churubusco and Ann Tremblay of Westville. She is survived by her daughter, Linda McElwain and her husband, John of North Bangor; her son, Faron and his wife, Darlene of West Bangor; her son, Paul Huebner of Colorado and her daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen Fleury of Louisiana. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Shawn and Robyn McElwain, Sherri McElwain, Christopher and Hanna Fleury, Amanda and Josh Dunning and Benjamin and Ilana Fleury, and great-grandchildren, Katelynn, Emmet, Lucy, Silas and Brielle and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank her special friends, Russell and Mary Dade of Canada and her niece, Christine Barney of Connecticut for all of their help in these past weeks. Calling hours will be held at St. Mary-Murphy-Wilcox Funeral Home on Saturday, July 6 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A prayer service will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel at 12 p.m. Burial will take place at Notre Dame Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country.
