Mrs. Gladys U. Hansen

Gladys U. Hansen, 88 a lifelong resident of Lyon Mountain joined the lord on Sunday, October 18th at her home, under the loving care of her family, hospice, and special caregivers LaDonna Irby and Anita Golovach. She was born in Lyon Mountain on March 19, 1927. Gladys was the first of nine children born to the late Louis and Velma (Salvin) Gonzales. After graduating from Lyon Mountain High School in 1945 she attended Loretta Business School in Plattsburgh. She dedicated herself to raising five children until 1967. Gladys then worked as a housekeeperat Clinton Correction Facility until her retirement in 1990. Gladys was an active member of the community. She participated in events at St. Bernard's and the Memorial Methodist Church, The Catholic Daughters, The Fireman's Auxiliary, and organizing trips for the Senior Citizens. Her passions included playing cards, Bingo, Scrabble, gardening, and socializing with friends. Gladys adored spending time with her family. You could often find her preparing Sunday dinners for her children and their families. Over the past 20 years she traveled to North Carolina to spend time with her two sons. During this time she treasured walks in the sun, reading on the porch, and visiting with friends. Gladys was the matriarch to her younger siblings and children. Throughout her life's journey, she "walked the talk" by caring and doing for others. She is survived by one brother, William Gonzales of Lyon Mountain, her five children Charles and Daisy Hansen of Oakboro NC, Diane and Stephen Petrashune of Saranac, Margaret and Gary Carter of Chateaugay, Chris Hansen of Queensbury, Michael and Lois Hansen of Hendersonville NC, her beloved grandchildren Scott and Jolie Petrashune, Fred and Natasha Carter, Eric and Alyssa Hansen, GianCanale, and great grandchildren Seth Petrashune, Kaeden and Ethan Carter, and many special relatives and friends. Gladys was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Charles "Chuck" Hansen. They were married August 4, 1947 at St. Bernard's Church in Lyon Mountain. She was predeceased by seven siblings Valencia Gonzales, Delores "Leta" Giroux, Thomas Gonzales, Louis Gonzales, Patricia Vorbetz, David Gonzales, and Mary Bassett. Those wishing to show expressions of sympathy may donate to St. Bernard's Church or the American Legion Post 1623. Calling hours will be on Thursday, October 22 from 4-7pm at St. Bernard's Church . A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, October 23 at 11am in St. Bernard's Church. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. A reception to celebrate Gladys' life will be held following the services on Friday at the American Legion in Lyon Mountain.
