Mr. John Walter Vreeland

John Walter Vreeland, 62, passed away June 19, 2016, at Park Plaza Hospital, Houston, Texas. Born May 14, 1954, in Plattsburgh, he was the son of Ross and Alice Jane (Rubado) Vreeland. John grew up on the family homestead in Ellenburg Center, NY and moved to Breakabean, NY his senior year of high school, graduating in 1972 from Middleburgh Central School. He was employed by Continental Airlines living in Phoenix AZ, Los Angeles, CA, finally settling in Houston TX. After his retirement, he worked for MD Anderson Cancer Research Center for three years. He sold Amway for many years and was owner of businesses Life and Disrupt. John was a passionate music lover with a large collection of albums, 45s, and CDs. He attended church regularly, was a caregiver to those in need, and had many beloved friends. He loved returning to the north country to visit relatives and go for boat rides on Chateaugay Lake. He is survived by his partner of 17 years, John-Steven Lira of Houston, TX; his step-mother, Esther Trombley of Ellenburg; brothers, Michael Vreeland of Rincon GA, Donald Vreeland and his wife, Betsy of Chelsea, SC, Gary Trombley of Breakabean, NY, Raymond Trombley of Breakabean, NY; sisters, Rose (Trombley) Becker of Midland NC, Anna (Trombley) Dudley and her husband, Ken of Freehold, NY, Donna (Trombley) Madl and her husband, George of Freehold, NY, Mary Beth (Trombley) Nelson of Freehold, NY; special aunts, Betty V. Chase of Chateaugay Lake, Nancy V. Bishop of Ellenburg Center; his mother-in-law, Caroline McLain of Katy, TX; sisters-in-law, Mary Frances Lira of Katy TX, Janice and Jason Guzak of Katy TX, Beverly and David Vazquez of Katy TX; extended Lira family in Houston TX; extended family in Mississippi; several nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; his step-father, Horace Trombley; a brother, Kevin Trombley; grandparents, Fred and Hazel Vreeland and Walter and Gladys Rubado. A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service was held by his Houston family and friends at Albans Episcopal Church on June 25. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 7 at 11 a.m. at the Chateaugay Funeral Home, Chateaugay, NY with Rev. Howard Cain officiating. Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery, Ellenburg Center, NY.
