Mrs. Loretta L. Gerow

Loretta L. Gerow, aged 103, of Church St. Brasher Falls, NY passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at Plattsburgh Rehabilitation and Nursing Center surrounded by her family. She was born in Glen Robertson, Ontario, Canada on February 1, 1919 to John E. and Mary Ellen Larocque Leroux. She was educated at the Fort Covington Schools and graduated from the Westport Central School in 1937. She was married to Charles Gerow Sr. of Westport, NY on May 11, 1940 at St. Patrick’s Church, Hogansburg, NY by Monsignor Funke. He predeceased her on July 21, 1963. Mrs. Gerow then went to work for the Staver Co in Westport until 1965, then she went to work for the Champlain National Bank until 1986 when she retired and moved to Brasher Falls. She enjoyed golf and was a member of the ladies’ league at Meadow Brook Golf Course for several years, as well as the bowling league in Massena. She also liked playing bridge. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, the Quad-town Senior citizens, the St. Lawrence County Council and the Red Hats Club. She is survived by her two sons, Charles Jr. and Susan Gerow of Burke, NY and Scott and Betty Gerow of Taylors, SC; four granddaughters, Virginia and Eric McPherson of Stafford, VA, Sarah Gerow of Merrill, NY, Krista LaFlesh of Burke, NY and Becky and Russ McManaway of Charleston, SC; ten great grandchildren, Seamus, Liam and Reese McPherson, Margaret, Eugene, Sammy and Levon Sharland, Carson and Ivan LaFlesh and Katelyn McManaway; as well as several nieces and nephews. Loretta was predeceased by her parents; a grandson, Will Gerow; five sisters, Lorence Major, Olga Fleury, Lucille McCann, Isabel White and Margaret Dafeldecker; six brothers, Edgar, Ernest, Leo, Deacon Francis; Alaide and Ivan Leroux. Calling hours will be held at St. Mary-Murphy-Wilcox Funeral Home on Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Notre Dame Church, Malone on Saturday, January 7 at noon. Burial will take place at Saint Philip Neri Catholic Cemetery, Westport, NY on Monday, January 9 at noon. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital, Hospice of St. Lawrence County or a charity of one’s choice.
