Ms. Mary Jean Dellernia

Mary Jean Dellernia, age 58, of Chateaugay, NY, quietly passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at the UVM Medical Center, Burlington, Vermont where she succumbed to a catastrophic cerebral bleed. Her devoted partner, Duane, and other loved ones were by her side. Mary Jean was born in the Borough of Brooklyn, N.Y. on November 18, 1964, to Sally Cummings and Ignazio Dellernia. Mary Jean, or ‘MJ’ as she was affectionally called by many, moved to the Chateaugay area in the early 2000s. It is there that she met her long-time partner, Duane Prue, and became an intricate part of his family. She was loved and adored by many. When MJ wasn’t working on cross word puzzles, she relished the excursions on the cruiser motorcycle with Duane, riding four wheelers, family time and traveling. Among her travels, she ventured with Duane to visit family in Florida and California where she could enjoy an abundance of her much-loved seafood. MJ adored being around children. She would have the biggest smile as she sat and played with the nieces and nephews. She also adored pets and would always be sure to ask about them when calling family and friends who had pets. Since her childhood, Mary Jean had a passion for helping others, so much so that at times she would have to be told to back up as she was trying to help too much. Even as a child she would get in the way and her aunt would have to tell her to give her some room. MJ would just giggle and back up just the slightest bit. MJ was certainly a small but mighty lady, a spitfire for sure. When she got mad, which was rare, one would certainly know. Her loving, kind, bubbly and giving spirit will be forever missed. Mary Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Sally and Ignazio Dellernia and Duane’s mother, Louva Jones. Mary Jean leaves behind her partner, Duane Prue; a daughter, Alison Poirier; two sisters, Elaine and ‘Cookie’; several cousins; and Duane’s family who had also become her family. In honor of Mary Jean’s life, calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Chateaugay Funeral Home, 36 Church Street, Chateaugay, NY, 12920. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 19, at St. Patrick’s Church, Chateaugay, NY. A reception will immediately follow the services at St. Patrick’s Church. Burial will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
