Ms. Rita Louise L'Ecuyer

Rita Louise L’Ecuyer, 97, of Malone died Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at North Country Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Massena, NY. Rita was born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts in 1925. She graduated from St. Bernard High School and later studied voice under the direction of Albert R. May. She worked as an executive secretary at the Holland Furnace Company in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. As a Daughter of the Holy Spirit, she taught grades 4 and 6 in Harford and Waterbury, Connecticut. Transferred to Swanton, Vermont, she taught business subjects at St. Anne’s Academy and directed the men’s choir at St. Ann’s Church. From 1956 to 1965, she taught in the business department at Holy Ghost Academy in Tupper Lake, NY and directed HGA Glee Club there for nine years. After graduating with a Master of Business Administration degree (MBA) from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, she served as Head of the Business Department at Annhurst College in Woodstock, Connecticut. She studied at the Catholic University in Washington, D.C. and became director of Religious Education at Notre Dame Parish in Pittsfield, MA. She ended her years with the Daughters of the Holy Spirit. After further study, particularly in Hebrew Scriptures, she earned a Masters of Arts Degree in Teaching Religion (MATR) from St. Michael’s College, Winooski, VT and continued in this field, conducting Adult Scripture Studies in Deferiet, Norwood, Schroon Lake, Crown Point, Colton and Harrisville, NY. In 1989, she settled in Malone, NY, retirement and continued teaching an on-going scripture series up toto the year 2001 in four area parishes: St. George’s in Burke, St. John Bosco, Notre Dame and St. Joseph’s, all in Malone. Having taken up residence at the Farrar Home in Malone, NY on July 27, 2005, she continued teaching scripture to a group of several residents there. Rita appreciated all her friends and former students who supported her over the years with such love and kindness. There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at Notre Dame Church. Burial will take place at St. John Bosco Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country.
