Mrs. Theresa Lucy Knapp

Theresa Lucy Knapp, 86, of Malone died Saturday, October 2, 2021 at the Alice Center, where she had been lovingly cared for since 2018. Born on October 8, 1934 in Malone, NY, she was the daughter of Hugh and Wynonia (Maneely) Anderson. She was married to Reginald John Knapp on January 19, 1952 at St. Joseph’s Church. He predeceased her on August 17, 1972. Theresa attended school in Malone and graduated from Franklin Academy with the Class of 1951. She then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from SUNY Potsdam. She was employed by New York State for over 20 years as a therapist and retired in 2000. She then worked part-time for several more years, doing the therapy work that she loved. Theresa was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and served as Eucharistic Minister. She also served as Literacy Volunteer, sharing her love of reading with others. In her younger years, Theresa was a 4H leader, CCD teacher, and member of Burke’s Ladies Home Bureau. She loved to travel, read, and lunch with her sisters. Theresa is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, John and Kimmie Knapp of Indiana, James Knapp of Rochester, NY, Robert Knapp and Carrie Iwema of Pittsburgh, PA; two daughters and sons-in-law, Alice Knapp and Walt Young of Stamford, Connecticut, Mary and Richard White of North Bangor; grandchildren, Matthew, John and Rachel Knapp, Corissa, Richard, Jacob, Alice and Jack White; great-grandchildren, Seamus, Saoirse and Siobhan McClay, Seraphina and Penelope Knapp, Lincoln Slocum, soon to be Madeline Knapp; a sister, Catherine Harwood and her husband, James, of Duane; a brother, Walton Anderson and his wife, Beverly of South Glens Falls; many beloved nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Theresa was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Glen and Robert Anderson, and one sister, Mary. She was also predeceased by nephews, Thaddeus Dumont and Joel Harwood, and a niece, Cynthia (Brockway) Bowes. Calling hours will be held at St. Mary-Murphy-Wilcox Funeral Home on Wednesday, Oct. 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon on Thursday, Oct. 7 at Notre Dame Church. Masks will be required for attendance. Burial will take place at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery, Mount Kisco, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Connections Wraparound Fund.
