Arthur W. Rankin, 91, of Chateaugay, passed away Monday, June 28, 2021 at Elderwood at Uihlein in Lake Placid. Born on February 10, 1930 in Malone, NY, he was the son of Thomas A. and Ellen A. (Welch) Rankin. He was married to Mary E. Manning on August 14, 1956 in St. Joseph’s Church, Needham, Massachusetts. She predeceased him on February 13, 2019 after 62 years of marriage. He graduated from Chateaugay Central School in 1949 and then Canton ATC in the class of 1955. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1953. He was a member of the Chateaugay American Legion Post #875. He worked as a milk inspector for New York State Agi- Markets in Albany, NY for over 35 years. After retirement he went on to work for Allied Federated Co-ops for many years. Arthur was a Fourth-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus for over sixty years where he served as a past District Deputy. He was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church. He was active in 4-H for over sixty years as well as serving on the Franklin County Fair Board of Directors. He was an avid chicken farmer, running the poultry barn at the Franklin County Fair for many years as well as the founder of the Franklin County Wide Poultry Club. He was a gifted baker and cook, making delicious rolls and pies. Arthur is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Shawn and Terri Rankin of Chateaugay and Matt and Sherry Rankin of Malone; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his parents and a daughter, Laurie Ann Marshall. Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, Chateaugay on July 6 at noon. Burial will be held in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Chateaugay. Donations in Art’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
