Bertha A. Shova, 88, formerly of North Bangor died Friday, June 30, 2017 under hospice care in Watertown, NY. Born on February 14, 1929 in Malone, NY, she was the daughter of Felix and Cordelia (Lamica) Martin. She was married to Nelson L. Shova on November 23, 1947 in Notre Dame Church. He predeceased her on December 21, 2003. Bertha lived all her life in Malone and attended local schools. In her early years, she was employed at Langdon Farms, Puritan Laundry and Alice Hyde Hospital. She then became employed as a seamstress for the North Country Dress Factory for 15 years, retiring in 1984 to care for her ailing husband. She was a communicant of Notre Dame Church. Bertha enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very busy with sewing, gardening, cooking and puzzles. She enjoyed fishing and fish fries. She had a great love for country music, dancing and bingo. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law , Karen and David Hyneman of Watertown, NY , Carole Robinson of Dexter, NY; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Shova of Virginia; seven grandchildren,Chad Hyneman, Bernadette Williams, Yvonne Deshaies, Marty Robinson, Matthew Hyneman, Rosie Benfield, Kimberly Robinson; five great-grandchildren, Kylar Hayes, Chloe Hyneman, Lukas Hyneman, Gracin Hayes, Brantley Williams; four half sisters, Beatrice Warner, Susan Donahue, Madeline Perry, Linda Renault; two half brothers, Adrian Brooks, George Brooks; several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her parents; a son, Rodney Shova; a brother, Abraham Martin; six sisters, Victoria Demars, Pauline Savoir, Dorothy Friend, Geraldine Rivers, Theresa Mallette and Shirley Johnston; a half sister, Sandra Jarviss. Calling hours will be held at St. Mary-Murphy-Wilcox Funeral Home on Saturday, July 8 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. A prayer service will immediately follow at 12 noon in the funeral home chapel. Burial will take place at Notre Dame Cemetery. A celebration of Bertha's life will be announced at the services.
