Mrs. Elizabeth "Betty" B. Miles

June 29, 1926 - July 19, 2019

Mrs. Elizabeth “Betty” B. Miles passed away peacefully July 19, at the age of 93, with her daughters by her side. She split her time between her home on Chateaugay Lake and Brookdale Senior Living Community in Manlius, NY. Betty was born in Chateaugay, NY June 29, 1926, the daughter of the late Phillip and Laura (Barnes) Boucher. After graduation from Chateaugay High School, she attended Potsdam State University receiving a degree in Education. She and her late husband Bob, taught in various locations in northern New York ultimately settling in Camden, NY where she continued teaching and together they raised three daughters. Betty enjoyed nearly 40 years of retirement. During their retirement years, she and Bob, spent many winters in Panama City, FL, Pawleys Island, S.C., Sanibel Island, FL, and Tampa, FL. She spent the past 9 months as a resident at Brookdale Community, Manlius. However, her true home was Chateaugay Lake where she spent two of her last weeks visiting friends, boating, shopping, and hosting 75 of her closest friends and family for her annual 4th of July Picnic. Betty’s greatest joy was being surrounded by her family and friends. She was like a “friendship snowball”, rolling down a hill, gaining friends with every passing turn. A visit from a friend instantly whisked away any aches or pains. She loved to shop with her daughters, visit the casino, knit, play card games, dominos, do jigsaw puzzles, video chat with her great-grandchildren and celebrate happy hour with a glass of white wine and friends. Betty was a member of the Clio Sorority at Potsdam, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority at Utica, NY State Teachers Association and the Noah’s Ark Snowbird Club in Panama City Beach, FL. She was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church and a member of the Catholic Women of Camden. Betty is now reunited in heaven with her childhood sweetheart of 67 years, Bob, who passed away in 2015. Surviving are her three daughters and spouses: Donna and Mike Owens of Pawleys Island, S.C.; Laurie and Jason LaManna of Tampa, FL; and Karen and Rod Littler of Fayetteville, NY; her grandchildren Ryan (Amy), Tammy, JoJo (Ashley), Ben, Callie, Casey, Caroline (Tim) and Dominique (Jerry);her great-grandchildren Henry, Madison, MacKenzie, Amalia, Porter, Elliot and Wyatt. The family wishes to thank the staff and residents of Brookdale Community for their kindnesses and the staff on 4 South, Crouse Hospital, Syracuse for their loving care of Betty and her family in her final days. Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Thursday, July 25, 2019 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, Chateaugay on Friday, July 26, 2019 at 10 a.m. Burial will be held in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Chateaugay. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Betty’s memory, can be made to Chateaugay Historical Society or to an organization closest to your heart.
