November 13, 1928 - November 29, 2021
Elizabeth (Betty) Rowley passed away peacefully on Monday, November 29, 2021. Born in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada on November 13, 1928, she was the first-born daughter of Melbourne and Edna (Manette) Lawlor. In 1931, the family moved to Montreal, Quebec, where her brother George and sister Murie were born. Betty attended school in Montreal and began her career as a secretary there. While on vacation at Lake Titus, NY, she met her future husband, Vernon Rowley. They married June 21st, 1952 in St. John Bosco Church, their wedding being the first one performed in the new church. Her husband predeceased her on October 27th, 2006. Betty is survived by her sister, Murie Hiscock of Calgary, Alberta and her brother George Lawlor and his wife Avalon, of Cooksville, Ontario. She is also survived by her seven children, her son Gregory Rowley and his wife Pam, daughters Carla Berry, Lisa Marshall and her husband Brick, Beth Bellinger and her husband Terry, Anna Langdon and her husband Bruce, Donna Rowley and her bonus daughter Mary (Reader) Mead, seven nieces and nephews, twenty-one grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. Betty was employed at Marine Midland Bank, retiring from there in 1981. After her retirement from the bank she decided to continue working on a part-time basis, for a time working as a cashier at Super Duper, then in the Credit Bureau for her son-in-law and lastly helping her daughter with the publication of a Docket. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church and a member of the choir there for many years. She loved her family and her church and approached everything with a no-nonsense, can-do attitude right up until the end. She also enjoyed family get-togethers and a good martini. Our family was truly blessed; she was a great mom, a great Nanny to her grandchildren and a great Uncle Nanny to her great grandchildren. She was loved by all and will be missed immensely. There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:05 p.m. on Friday, December 10 at Notre Dame Church. Masks are required for those in attendance. Burial will take place at St. John Bosco Cemetery. Donations in Betty's memory may be made to the Malone Adult Center.
