Mr. George J. Bradshaw

June 22, 1928 - May 31, 2013

George J. Bradshaw, 84, of State Rt. 374, Merrill died Friday, May 31, 2013 at Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, VT. Born in Chateaugay, NY on June 22, 1928, he was the son of Patrick and Henrietta (Cassidy) Bradshaw. He was married to Irene Remillard in Sept. 1961 in St. Patrick's Church, Chateaugay. She predeceased him in 1974. His second marriage was to Karen Walfield whom he married in April 2003 in St. Patrick's Church. She predeceased him in Sept. 2008. George graduated from Chateaugay High School with the Class of 1945. He attended North Country Community College. He ran the family farm in Chateaugay until 1975 and then became employed by the Village of Chateaugay until 1985. He was later employed at Lyon Mountain Correctional Facility and retired in 1995. He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, Chateaugay and a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He delivered Meals on Wheels for the Burke Adult Center and was also a volunteer for Hospice of the North Country. George loved to read, write, garden, and spend time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed the companionship of his dogs. His faith was a very important part of his life. He is survived by four children and their spouses, Patrick and Elizabeth Bradshaw of Brookline, NH, Matthew and Cynthia Bradshaw of Milford, NH, Angeline and David Petrashune of Merrill, Anne and Stephen Boyea of Chateaugay; seven grandchildren, Martin and Matthew Bradshaw, Bradley and Michael Petrashune, Stephanie, Courtney and Patrick Boyea; many nieces and nephews. Besides his wives, he was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, John and Gerald Bradshaw; three sisters, Irene Bruns, Marie Green, and Rose Sucato. Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Monday, June 3 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4 in St. Patrick's Church with Rev. John Looby officiating. Burial will take place at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Chateaugay. Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country or the American Cancer Society.
