Mr. Gurmain "Converse" Sinkler

March 25, 1940 - April 30, 2020

Gurmain “Converse” Sinkler, age 80, passed away peacefully at his home with caring staff at his side under the care of Hospice of the North Country. He was born on Monday, March 25, 1940. He came to live at Rte 37 IRA in June of 2017. Previous to this he resided at Raybrook IRA and SOIRA Edgewood. Gurmain truly loved life and had a smile that was infectious. He enjoyed swimming, going camping, and playing basketball. Gurmain had a passion for music and enjoyed singing songs with his peers and staff. He enjoyed many genres such as 90’s music, Classical, Sing-A-Longs, and Folk. One of Gurmain’s many talents was singing. He would sing such songs as “Hello, I Love You” by The Doors, “Working on The Railroad, and “If You’re Happy and You Know It”, just to name a few. His joyful spirit captured the hearts of many and you could not help but join in and sing along. He loved to play the harmonica and Ukulele. He had a love of coffee and outings to McDonald’s. He enjoyed spending time with friends drawing, listening to music, going for a ride, and relaxing in the back yard. Gurmain also had a sense for fashion. He enjoyed wearing his belts, hats, sweaters, and slippers. He had many nicknames for those that supported him. Regardless of how many times you would tell him your name, he insisted on calling you the name he “picked” for you. These “special” names will never be forgotten. He knew how to grab your attention and how to make you laugh and smile. He had a smile from ear to ear that could brighten anyone’s day. He enjoyed spending his days with all the staff and others who supported him. He will be greatly missed and will live on forever in all of the hearts he touched. Gurmain is survived by many family and friends who knew him and helped to support him in South Franklin/Saranac Lake, Rte 37 IRA, and all of the Citizen Advocates Family. He was predeceased by his parents. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5 at the Brainardsville Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Chateaugay Funeral Home. Online condolences may be offered at www.chateaugayfuneralhome.com.
