Mr. Irving M. Cook

February 24, 1927 - January 17, 2015

Irving M. Cook, 87, of Maple Ave., Chateaugay died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015 at the Alice Hyde Medical Center, Malone. Born on Feb. 24, 1927 in Burke, NY, he was the son of Floyd and Beatrice Mae (Avery) Cook. He was married to June Bell on March 8, 1948 in the Chateaugay United Methodist Church. Irving attended Chateaugay High School, enlisted in the US Army in 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1947. He was employed as a carpenter with the Carpenters Union in Plattsburgh for many years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Chateaugay United Methodist Church, the Carpenters Union, the Chateaugay American Legion, where he was named Leggier of the Year in 1997, and the Bellmont Hi-Riders Snowmobile Club, former member of Frontier Lodge #517 of Free and Accepted Masons. Irving enjoyed all construction projects, playing cards with family and friends, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling and outdoor sports. He enjoyed listening to country music and loved to step-dance. He is survived by his wife of 66 years; seven children and their spouses, William and Peg Cook of Estero, Florida, Steve Cook of Malone, Bruce and Ann Cook of Brainardsville, Kathy and James Johnston of Burke, Cindy and Joe Pullen of Macedon, Kim and Dana Luety of Rochester, Michelle and Matt Flynn of Chateaugay; a brother, Edmund Cook of Florida; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marlene and Lloyd Russell of Parishville and Florida, Sandra and Dennis Morse of Syracuse; 18 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Holly on April 27, 1983; a brother, Richard Cook; three sisters, Ardith Durkee, Vennita Cook and Myrna Cowan; a step-sister, Gweneth Thompson. Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Wednesday, Jan. 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, Jan. 22 in the Chateaugay United Methodist Church with Rev. Marty Connor officiating. Spring burial will take place at Eastside Cemetery, Chateaugay. Donations in his memory may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
