Mr. John Joseph Kaska

John Joseph Kaska, 67, of State Rt. 374, Merrill died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family and Hospice of the North Country. Born on Aug. 31, 1945, he was the son of the late John and Margaret Bourey Kaska. He attended Lyon Mountain School. John was employed as a laborer on the building of the Adirondack Northway, nuclear plants in Vermont and Massachusetts, and later worked as a driller in the NYC subway tunnels. John was a purveyor of fine collector cars and antiques. He operated Boondock Corvette Sales throughout the 70's and mid 80's. In 1981, he started a wrecker service, Kaska & Son hauling and towing and most recently ran an antique shop on Rt. 11 in Ellenburg Center. John is survived by his wife, Nancy Danussi whom he married on Oct. 11, 1981, a son and daughter-in-law, Jesse and Tammy Kaska of Ellenburg Center, NY; one grandson, Jake Marino Kaska; two step-grandsons, Brody and Riley Vaincourt; a brother-in-law and his wife, Gregory and Kalma Danussi of Chateaugay Lake, NY; two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Patricia and Gerald Rubado of Massena, NY, and Sandra and Paul Dooling of Lake Placid, NY. He is also survived by his aunts and many cousins. His devoted cocker spaniel, Holly Berry was with him to the end. Johnny Joe lived life to the fullest and always was looking for a good deal. So rev your engine and spin your tires - watch out, here comes Johnny Joe in his 1960 Corvette convertible. There are no calling hours. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Saturday, Sept. 15 in St. Bernard's Church, Lyon Mountain with Rev. Bill Edwards officiating. Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country, Malone, NY.
