Lorraine Madeline Farrell, 94, of Lyon Mountain died Sunday, July 8, 2012 peacefully at home with her loving family by her side. She was welcomed into the arms of her Blessed Savior accompanied by the angels. "Well done my good and faithful servant". Born in Syracuse, NY on June 26, 1918, she was the daughter of Fred Roberts and Josephine Haneault. She married John Riley Farrell at St. Bernard's Church on Oct. 14, 1935. Lorraine was very active in her community of Lyon Mountain and loved the people who resided there. Her ministry was remembering everyone on their birthday and helping anyone in need. She especially loved the Veterans of Foreign Wars and had a special place reserved in her heart for wounded Veterans. She served as Asst. Town Clerk for many years, served on the Election Board, taught religion class at St. Bernard's and sang in the choir; worked with Meals on Wheels in Lyon Mountain and Ellenburg Center, was a Girl Scout Leader, worked for JCEO to help the elderly, was with the Order of the Franciscans, was a Catholic Daughter and served as Regent. Many people will remember her cutting and perming their hair many years ago. She was very artistic and had many talents. She will be remembered as a wonderful homemaker, a loving, compassionate mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She always lent a helping hand to the poor and needy and truly loved her neighbor. Nothing made her happier than having her family around her. She was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Josephine Roberts; her brothers, Stewart and Hubert Roberts; her husband, John Riley Farrell; her grandson, Michael Defayette and her 3 month son, James Farrell. Lorraine Farrell is survived by her sister, Marion Marlowe of Chateaugay and many nieces and nephews; her daughter Ann DeFayette and son-in-law Clayton DeFayette of Standish, NY; daughter Ruth McKinney and son-in-law Jack McKinney of Loon Lake, NY; son John Farrell and daughter-in-law JoAnne Farrell of Lyon Mountain, NY; and son Lawrence Farrell and daughter-in-law Carol Farrell of Raymond, Maine. She had 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her cat, Annie, who stood vigil at her death and loved her dearly in life. Calling hours will be held at St. Bernard's Church, Lyon Mountain on Tuesday, July 10 from 9-11 am. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 am in the church with Rev. Ted Crosby officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Wounded Veterans Association, St. Bernard's Church or the charity of your choice.
