Mrs. Margaret I. Moore

October 16, 1917 - August 21, 2018

Margaret I. Moore, 100, of State Route 374, Merrill died Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family and aided by Hospice of the North Country. Born on October 16, 1917 in Ellenburg, NY, she was the daughter of Nelson and Nellie (Fifield) LaPoint. Her first marriage was to Hulcy Ashline on February 16, 1938 in Ellenburg. He predeceased her on October 12, 1942. Her second marriage was to Bernard Moore on June 30, 1947 at the First Congregational Church, Malone. He predeceased her on February 15, 1993. Margaret attended school in Lyon Mountain. She was a member of the Brainardsville United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Lyon Mountain Home Bureau, Lyon Mountain Senior Citizens, Lyon Mountain Museum and a former member of the Bellmont Hi-Riders Snowmobile Club. Margaret loved spending time at “The Lot” on Chateaugay Lake with her husband Bernard and her ever-growing family. She was an avid reader, knitter and enjoyed feeding and watching the birds. Margaret baked bread on a regular basis and people came from both sides of the lake to enjoy her famous donuts. She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Dowd and her husband, William of Chateaugay Lake, Shirley Jones of Malone; a son, Lawrence Ashline and his wife, Tina of Constable; two daughters-in-law, Marcia Ashline of Grand Isle, VT, Nancy Ashline of Chateaugay; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren and three more on the way as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her husbands, she was predeceased by her parents; two sons, Hulcy and Karl Ashline; two brothers, Richard and Raymond LaPoint; four sisters, Marjory LaPoint, Leta Ashline, Eva Lapiere and Alice Prenoveau. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, August 25 in the Brainardsville United Methodist Church. Burial will take place at the Brainardsville Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to Lyon Mountain Rescue and Hospice of the North Country.
