Mrs. Theresa L. Oakes

March 27, 1929 - November 19, 2017

Theresa L. Oakes, 88, of Malone died Sunday, November 19, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family and aided by Hospice of the North Country. Born on March 27, 1929 in Malone, NY, she was the daughter of Clarence and Blanche (Lamitie) Larche. She married Lee K. Oakes on October 14, 1946 in St. John Bosco Chapel in Malone, NY. He predeceased her on August 25, 2010. Mrs. Oakes lived most of her life in the Malone and Moira area and attended schools in Malone. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Ursaline Academy in 1946. She was employed at Alice Hyde Hospital as a ward clerk and volunteer, retiring in 1974. She was a communicant of Notre Dame Church and former member of Notre Dame Altar and Rosary Society. Mrs. Oakes was also a member of the Moonshine Squares, a square-dancing group. Her hobbies included bridge, reading, crocheting, scrabble and crossword puzzles. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Jerry Campbell of Grayville, IL, Dorothy and Gary Osterhout of Rotterdam, NY, Joanne and Edward Paquin of Malone, NY; two sons and daughters-in-law, Philip and Wanda Oakes of South Glens Falls, Stephen and Pamela Oakes of Malone; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Irene Tatro of Batavia, Jeannette Martin of Indiana, Margaret and Gary Potter of Rogersville, TN; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Robert and Betty Larche of Massena, Jerris (Jerry) and Gail Larche of North Bangor, Rita Larche of Dannemora; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, her parents; two sons, George Oakes and Charles Oakes, a brother, Richard Larche and a son-in-law, Carl LaFave. There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 24 in Notre Dame Church. Burial will take place at Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country.
