Miss Catherine T. Burke

Miss Catherine T. Burke of Depot St., Chateaugay, age 79, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2020 at the Alice Hyde Medical Center, Malone. Catherine was a Chateaugay resident all of her life. Catherine was born Aug. 14, 1941 in Malone, NY, daughter of the late William and Gladys (Ryan) Burke. Miss Burke graduated from Chateaugay Central School in the Class of 1960. She enjoyed attending several class reunions but especially the 50th class reunion with her classmates and friends. Employed at CCS for 20 years as a school bus monitor and cafeteria worker, Catherine retired in 2005. Miss Burke was a member of St. Patrick’s Church where she served as Eucharistic Minister. Catherine was also a member of the Annual Harvest Dinner Committee. Catherine was predeceased by her parents; her brother, John and sister-in-law, Monica Burke; her brother-in-law, Peter Abbass and her sister, Mary Burke Abbass. Surviving are her sister, Ann Burke with whom she resided, a brother, Patrick Burke and his wife, Judy Burke and many cousins, nieces and nephews as well as grand-nieces and nephews. Catherine was an avid sports fan, especially of the CCS Bulldogs, the Syracuse basketball team and of course “her” New York Yankees. She also enjoyed listening to the music channel especially Irish music and holiday music. At Catherine’s request, there will be no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church on West Main St., Chateaugay on Friday, Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. After mass all are invited to Pat and Judy Burke’s home at 20 LaCount Street, Chateaugay. In accordance with current health restrictions, those in attendance are asked to observe the use of face coverings and social distancing. The family wishes to extend their thanks to all for their compassionate care especially Stephanie Leffler, Dr. Myrna Sanchez, her nurse, “Dee,” and the Alice Hyde Medical Center staff on first floor, ICU and Emergency room.
