Mr. Dale Greeno

Dale Greeno, of Malone, New York, passed away Monday, July 20, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer and aided by Hospice of the North Country. Born on April 3, 1950 in Plattsburgh, NY, he was the son of Earl “Red” and Rita (Signor) Greeno. Dale was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, craftsman and friend, whose greatest joy came from spending time with the people he loved. He had a lifelong passion for sports, especially baseball. One of his proudest accomplishments was helping build Red Devil's Field, where he, his family, and countless friends shared years of memories with the Red Devils softball team. Whether cheering from the stands or watching from the sidelines, Dale rarely missed an opportunity to support his family. He especially loved watching his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins compete in school athletics and was always their biggest fan. He married Irene LaFlesh on April 23, 1976 at St. Patrick’s Church, Chateaugay. He is survived by his loving wife, Irene; his children, Casey and his wife, Hannah, Jason and partner, Kira; grandchildren, Molly, Chase, Sam and Oliver; his brothers and sisters; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss his steady presence, generous heart, and willingness to lend a helping hand. Dale was predeceased by his parents, Rita Greeno and Earl "Red" Greeno. For over 40 years, Dale served in the Malone Central School including as the Head Custodian at St. Joseph's Elementary School on Elm Street in Malone, where he was a familiar and well-loved face to generations of students and staff. During the school's mock 1988 presidential election, Dale became part of school lore by finishing a close third as a write-in candidate behind George H. W. Bush and Michael Dukakis. When he wasn't caring for St. Joseph's or helping maintain and build homes around Malone and the surrounding lakes, Dale enjoyed golfing with his family, tackling construction and woodworking projects, and taking in the latest summer blockbuster. His favorite movie was Twister, and he never passed up the chance to enjoy a good action or disaster film. More than anything, Dale will be remembered for the way he cared for others. Whether building something with his hands, fixing what needed fixing, or simply showing up when someone needed him, he expressed his love through service. His kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering dedication to his family will remain his lasting legacy. In accordance with Dale's wishes, a simple graveside service will be held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lake Titus Rd, Malone on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 11 a.m., followed by a meal where family and friends are invited to gather, share stories, and celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Dale's name may be made to Hospice of the North Country, whose compassionate care meant so much to Dale and his family during his final journey.
