Mr. John Riley Farrell Jr.

John Riley Farrell Jr., 88, of Phillips Court, Lyon Mountain passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at Meadowbrook Healthcare, Plattsburgh. Born on September 11, 1937 in Plattsburgh, NY he was the son of John Riley Sr. and Lorraine Madeline (Roberts) Farrell. He was married to Joan Ann Lawrence on August 23, 1958 in St. Bernard’s Church, Lyon Mountain by Rev. Kellog. She predeceased him on December 13, 2023. They were married 65 years. He was a graduate from Lyon Mountain High School. He served in the Army Reserves and was and Army Veteran. He worked at Harlem Valley Psychiatric Hospital as a male psychiatric attendant and then pursued a career as a New York State Correctional officer until his retirement. He sold shoes as a door-to-door salesman and he knew the “art of the deal.” John was a man of strong Catholic faith, love for his family, passion for his Sacred Heart of Jesus Holy Face Association, Saint Anthony and for Saint Andre Bessette known as “Brother Andre”. He would always state Brother Andre “never let me down”. He answered all my prayers. He was in the Third Order of Franciscans for many years and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed spending time doing wood carvings and loved camping at Meacham Lake with his wife and four children. He was a dedicated New York Yankee fan. He taught Catholic religion classes, and spent time as a religious ministry visiting the elderly and sick at the Clinton County Nursing Home. He is survived by his devoted children and their spouses, John A. and Linda Farrell, Joanne L. and Arek Malhas, Ann Marie and Darren Oakes, Karen Marie Farrell and Stephane Hebert; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a brother, Lawrence Farrell; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Ruth McKinney and Ann Defayette; and an infant brother, James Farrell. Calling hours will be held at St. Bernard’s Church, Lyon Mountain on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 from 10 a.m. to noon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately following at noon. Burial will take place at St. Bernard’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to St. Bernard’s Church, Lyon Mountain.
