Mrs. Mary M. Harrigan

Mary M. Harrigan of Clifton Park formally of Chateaugay, died on June 27, 2023, at Albany Medical Center. Born in Bloomingdale, NY January 9, 1926, she was the daughter of Jack McManus and Nina Tyler McManus. She graduated from Bloomingdale School at age 16 in 1942. She worked for Western Union as a relief general manager in offices in New Jersey, Connecticut, and New York until she married in 1947. Mary met Joseph Harrigan on a blind date set up by her sister, Barbara, and his cousin, Francis. They married September 15, 1947, at St. Patrick’s Church in Chateaugay and lived on the Irish Knoll Farm on Harrigan Road. Mary was active in 4-H as a leader, teaching her members baking, sewing, and many crafts which they entered at the Clinton County Fair. She loved playing pinochle, doing many crafts, but most of all, dancing. Everyone loved watching Mary and Joe dance! She was also a member of St. Patrick’s Altar and Rosary Society for many years. She and Joe raised eight children on the farm, five daughters and three sons. Mary always had a vegetable garden every year. She and Margie Harrigan picked wild berries on the farm for their wonderful pies and shortcakes. Mary loved spending time with her family, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She and Joe hosted many family reunions each summer for all including many, many cousins. They also enjoyed going on trips after the kids were older, especially with Martin and Margie Harrigan. After Joe passed, her trips were taken with her dear friend, Betty Chase, with the Senior Citizens of Plattsburgh. She is survived by her son, Ken (Tanie) Harrigan of Malone, and daughters Nancy Harrigan of Clifton Park, Christine (Paul) Boyea of Plattsburgh, Susan (Francis) LaBarge of Hickory, NC, Maureen (Rob) Shields of Ballston Spa, and Jackie (Jeff) Gregory of Altamont. She also leaves behind fourteen grandchildren, Benjamin (Ashley) Boyea, Brenda (Mick) Timmons, Becki (Bob) Gould, Mike LaBarge, Lee (Claudine) LaBarge, Shawn McClenaghan, Tyler (Ashley) Harrigan, Brent (Carly) Harrigan, Zachary (Ciara) Harrigan, Kristy (Andrew) Cymbrak, Shawn Seaman, Jessica (Nate) Locke, Kaci and Quinn Shields, and eighteen great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is also survived by two sisters, Isabelle McManus of Schenectady and Dorothy Horan of Tupper Lake. In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband, Joe, and two sons, Bob and Tim, and two sisters, Marge Pinsonnault and Barbara Harrigan. Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Friday, June 30, 2023 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, Chateaugay. Burial will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country.
