Mrs. Stella O'Connor

Stella O'Connor, 88, of Malone, passed away while surrounded by her family on June 20th, 2022. Stella was born to Theresa (Beach) and Joseph Benware on July 1st, 1933. She was born and raised in Chasm Falls, NY, where she also attended local schools. Stella was united in marriage to Gerald O'Connor on November 10, 1951 at St. Edward’s Church in West Bangor NY. Gerald predeceased her on April 22nd of 1993. Together they went on to have six children. She is survived by her children, Jerry (Sharon) O'Connor, daughter-in-law, Carol Edward, Sharon (Dale) Gonia, Karen Hastings, Darlene (Faron) Fleury, Lisa (Stan) Brockway, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great- great-grandchildren, her beloved feline companion, Baby who brought her endless comfort and joy for the last two years. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, a son, Steve O'Connor, son-in-law Bruce Hastings, and granddaughter Sherry Hastings. Stella dedicated her life to being a wonderful, caring, and dependable mother. She was always there to support her family through all of their passions and difficulties of their lives. It was always her mission to improve the lives of her children and their families. Over the years Stella had an impact on not only her family, but many others as well. She not only took care of her family, but also always looked out for friends of the family, the children she babysat and other community members; many which will always know her as "Ma." Stella loved to play bingo, go to the casino, play cards with her family, and attend family events. She always loved filling her home with warmth and kindness, as she would welcome a house full of family and friends on every holiday. She will forever hold a place in the hearts of all of those that she has touched. Visitation will be held at St. Mary-Murphy-Wilcox Funeral Home, Malone on Thursday, June 23, 2022 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Augustine’s Church, Bangor on Thursday, June 23 at 11 a.m. Burial will be held in St. Augustine’s Cemetery, Bangor. Donations may be made in Stella's memory to the Bangor Volunteer Fire Department.
