Mr. Wayne Larry Ashline

On December 9, 2022, Wayne Ashline passed on, full of love from his family as well as gratitude for the time we had with him. It was the perfect landing he deserved thanks in part to the Respite House and prayers from the many who adored him. An angel on earth filling it with nothing but love, Wayne Larry was born in Malone, New York on November 29, 1964. Diagnosed with Down Syndrome, his parents quickly learned the gift they had been given as he was a quiet baby full of smiles even then. Raised in Burlington, Vermont, he attended H.O. Wheeler School and was taught by one of his angels, Mrs. Potash. He then went on to graduate from Burlington High School. He was a special Olympian, starting at a young age, highly decorated in medals from track and field, downhill skiing, bowling, and bocce. This is where he loved time with his friends and the many coaches who nurtured his skills along the way. To see him stand on the podium holding up his medal was sure to fill your heart. Wayne most loved spending time with his family. Ice fishing, snowmobiling and grilling with his dad; listening to music with his sister, Wanda; playing games with his sister, JoAnn; car rides with his sister, Beck; visiting his brother, Tim at his shop and dancing with all of them at any party they attended. He was the best Uncle Waynie to his nieces and nephews. Gentle when they were babies and a constant playmate as they got older. He loved riding them around on his four-wheeler and golf cart as well as beating them at checkers and video games. What Wayne loved beyond anything in life was his mom. Such a blessing to each other, she was incredibly patient with him and he showed nothing but sweetness to her. They went everywhere together and shared a love indescribable. As far as his favorite places, Chateaugay, NY was certainly one of them, there he spent time with his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Wayne is survived by his mother, Marcia (Dupree) Ashline of Colchester, VT; his siblings, Wanda Lamb of Grand Isle, VT, JoAnn Chicoine of Gibsonton, FL, Rebecca Ashline of South Hero, VT, Tim Ashline of Colchester, VT; nieces and nephews, Jenna, Stephanie, Danielle, Meghan, Karlee, Taylor, Levi as well as their children; and his lifelong friend, Rick Bascom. He was predeceased by his father, Karl Ashline; his paternal grandparents, Bernard and Margaret Moore; and maternal grandparents, Louis and Corinne Dupree. To know Wayne was to love Wayne, because every person he met was greeted with a hug and left always with his smile and usually an “I Love You”. To go on without him will be the hardest, but the love from Wayne never leaves us. And, to remember all of the lessons he taught, you need only think back to walking into his room. His loud headphones, remind us to sing; his strobe light, to dance; his medals, to be the champions of our own lives; his games, reminding us to laugh and play; the cakes, to celebrate, especially the little things; his wallet full of dollar bills, to work hard; his rugs, to create; his telescope as a reminder to look up at the moon he loved; and the look on his face when he saw you, always reminding you of what matters most – LOVE. Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, Chateaugay on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at 11 a.m. Burial will be held in Brainardsville Cemetery. A Celebration of Wayne’s life will be held on January 8, 2023 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Burlington Moose Lodge #1618, 1636 Williston Road, South Burlington, VT 05403. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in Wayne’s memory may be made to McClure Miller Respite House 3113 Roosevelt Highway, Colchester Vt 05446.
